Oct. 12, 2004 INDIANAPOLIS--Freshman setter Andrea Morrone (Orland Park, Ill./Stagg) of Lewis University has been named Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week for her efforts over the weekend. Morrone guided a Lewis offense that was hitting .204 coming into the weekend to a .268 clip against two of the top teams in the GLVC. Despite the Flyers losing a hard-fought, five-game battle on Friday against SIU Edwardsville, Morrone put up 53 assists and added 21 digs. She then helped lead the Flyers to a four-game victory over Southern Indiana on Saturday, giving the Screaming Eagles their first conference loss of the year. She registered a season-high 53 assists in consecutive matches and had a season-best 22 digs against Southern Indiana. She led the team in digs in both matches. For the week, Morrone averaged 11.78 assists and 4.78 digs per game. This season, she has averaged 8.27 assists and 3.05 digs per game. Morrone is the second Lewis player to claim the award this season; sophomore Theresa Nugent was selected Co-Player of the Week August 31. The Flyers are now 11-8 overall and 4-5 in the GLVC. They will face non-conference opponent St. Xavier on Wednesday before traveling to Bellarmine for a GLVC match-up on Saturday. |
