Aug. 22, 2005 INDIANAPOLIS--The Lewis University women's volleyball team was picked sixth in the Great Lakes Valley Conference preseason coaches poll. The 2004 Flyers, who were 18-10 overall and 10-6 in the GLVC, finished fifth in the conference regular-season standings. The addition of perennial power Rockhurst to the GLVC bumped the Flyers down a spot in the 2005 poll from their finish last year. SIU Edwardsville topped the poll with five first-place votes and 137 points. Rockhurst was second with a poll-high six first-place votes and 134 points. Defending conference champion Southern Indiana received one first-place vote and finished third with 118 points. Northern Kentucky (114 points), Indianapolis (98) and Lewis (84) occupied the Nos. 4-6 spots, respectively. Drury received one first-place vote and placed seventh with 74 points. Quincy (65), Wisconsin-Parkside (65), Saint Joseph's (50), Missouri-St. Louis (39), Bellarmine (25) and Kentucky Wesleyan (12) rounded out the poll. |
