Harrison Leads Lewis on Senior Day

Nov. 6, 2004

Box Score

ROMEOVILLE, Ill.-- - On senior day, fittingly a senior carried the Lewis University women's volleyball team to victory in its final regular-season game of the year.

Senior middle hitter Rory Harrison capped a career match with the match-ending kill in a 30-20, 31-33, 30-25, and 30-16 victory over Saint Joseph's (12-21, 7-9 Great Lakes Valley Conference). The kill was Harrison's 19th of the match and topped her previous career high of 18 kills. She tallied 19 kills on 34 attempts with just one hitting error for a .529 hitting percentage.

The Flyers (18-9, 10-6 GLVC) finish regular-season play fifth in the GLVC and will play Indianapolis in the opening round of the GLVC Tournament.

Lewis coasted to victory in game 1 before Saint Joseph's earned a scrappy win in game 2. With the Flyers leading 29-27 in game 2, SJC scored three straight points and eventually picked up the 33-31 win. Lewis rebounded in games 3 and 4, however, and played its best in the clinching game. In game 4, Harrison had five kills and the team produced seven blocks, including three each from Harrison and Rochelle Ruen. Lewis hit .281, while holding the Pumas to a -.205 hitting percentage in the closing game.

Ruen and Theresa Nugent added 10 kills each to assist the Lewis attack. Ruen also had 11 digs and six blocks.

Defensively, Becca Lisle registered a match-high eight blocks and Maggie Haen tallied 11 digs. With 451 digs this season, Haen is just five digs shy of setting Lewis' single-season record.
