Charisse Steckling surpassed 20 kills for the third time this season
 
Flyers Shock Rockhurst;
Head To GLVC Title Match

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - Charisse Steckling hit .304 with a match-high 22 kills as the Lewis Flyers upset No. 19 Rockhurst, 30-21, 20-30, 30-21, 14-30, 15-11 Friday afternoon in a Great Lakes Valley Conference semifinal match on the campus of tournament-host Southern Illinois Edwardsville.

The Flyers (24-5) advance to the GLVC Championship match against SIUE, which won 3-1 over Indianapolis on Friday night, on Saturday at 2 p.m. The Flyers are playing in their first GLVC title match since they last won the conference crown in 1992.

Steckling was one of four Flyers to reach double digits in kills. Theresa Nugent hit .288 with a season-high 18 kills along with 20 digs, and GLVC Freshman of the Year Stephanie Sagat hit .286 with 18 kills and 19 digs. Sarah McKinney added 10 kills with a career-best 23 digs.

All-GLVC first-team setter Andrea Morrone collected a career high 67 assists while also registering 14 digs. Lauren Hatter collected 22 digs, and Sara deBuhr totaled seven kills and four blocks.

Rockhurst also had four players reach double figures in kills, led by Audrey Boese with 19. Nathalia Rivera's 27 digs was a match high.

Rockhurst held slim advantages in hitting (.218 to .211) and total blocks (9-8), but the Flyers out-hit Rockhurst .336 to .134 in the three games they won.

Lewis has played in seven GLVC Championship finals in program history, going 4-3 in those matches.
