ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - No. 13 Lewis swept a pair of matches on Saturday at Neil Carey Arena. In the opener Lewis took down Great Lakes Valley Conference foe Kentucky Wesleyan 25-13, 25-17, 25-9 by out-hitting them .338 to .000. Lewis won the night cap over non-conference Aquinas 27-25, 26-24, 25-15.

Sixteen different Flyers recorded kills against Kentucky Wesleyan.

Freshman Jillian Carlberg (Urbandale, Iowa/Waukee) led Lewis with six kills on nine swings to hit .556. Freshman Nikki Maes (Chicago, Ill./Queen of Peace) and senior Sara deBuhr (Urbandale, Iowa/Urbandale) each recorded five kills.

The Flyers recorded 14 aces, just eight days after totaling 13 against Michigan Tech. Maes and junior Lauren Seliga (St. Louis, Mo./Nerinx) each had three aces in the match.

Lewis started the opening set on a 5-1 run and used a 9-0 stretch to pull away. It was a two-point contest in the second set at 17-15 when seven straight Lewis points gave the Flyers the edge. An 11-1 Lewis run in the third set ended the Panthers' hopes.

The Flyers swept Aquinas in the second match despite being pushed to extra points in the first two sets. In each of the first two sets Aquinas turned away several set points before the Flyers finally put the Saints away. Seliga had a hand in both set clinching points. She assisted on a block for the first and then delivered a kill for the second.

The third set was all Lewis. The Flyers opened with four straight points and used a 7-1 run to pull away.

Seliga, deBuhr and senior Kim Richards (Evergreen Park, Ill./Mother McAuley) all had seven kills. Seliga also added 11 digs and three block assists. The Flyers out-blocked (8-3) and out-hit (.330-.147) Aquinas.

The win marked the Flyers' 21st straight victory and 37th at home. Both are ongoing Lewis records.

"It was a long weekend of volleyball and it was good to make sure everybody got to play and perform well," head coach Lorelee Smith said.

The Flyers are now 24-3. Aquinas falls to 21-5, Kentucky Wesleyan is now 1-25. Lewis returns to GLVC play on Tuesday when they travel to UW-Parkside for a 7 p.m. contest.

A Catholic university sponsored by the De La Salle Christian Brothers, Lewis offers nearly 80 undergraduate majors and programs of study, accelerated degree completion options for working adults, various aviation programs and 22 graduate programs in nine fields. The 10th largest private, not-for-profit university in Illinois is being honored for the sixth consecutive year by The Princeton Review and U.S. News & World Report.
