ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - Senior Stephanie Sagat (Darien, Ill./Hinsdale South) broke the school record for career kills during No. 13 Lewis' sweep of conference foe Southern Indiana (25-11, 25-19, 25-13) on Friday evening at Neil Carey Arena. The match was aired live on Lakeshore Public Television.

Sagat entered the match needing just six kills to become Lewis' career leader. After earning five in the first set, she slammed down her sixth for Lewis' third point of the second set to pass Katie Gilman's (2000-03) 1,559. Sagat finished with 12 kills and hit .526. Her career total now stands at 1,566 and counting.

"When the pressure is on, be it a record or at the conference tournament, Stephanie always steps up," head coach Lorelee Smith said. "She always goes to that next level and produces. That is a rarity to find and I love having someone like that on my team. I think because she can do that, the rest of the team follows and makes the team stronger."

Sagat had two kills in the Flyers' 7-0 run to start the match. The Flyers cruised to the win by out-hitting the Screaming Eagles .565 to -.038 in the opening frame. Senior Jessica Guest (Hudson, Ill./Normal West) had the Flyers' 25th point.

Lewis led the second set 12-10 when they went on a 5-0 run to pull away. Sagat had two kills during the stretch.

The third set looked like a carbon copy of the first, with the Flyers out-hitting Southern Indiana .452 to .080. A 9-2 stretch during the game left no doubt to the outcome.

The win marked a school record 19th straight victory.

Junior Rachel Ruedi (Mahomet, Ill./Mahomet Seymour) powered an offense that hit .404 for the match. She recorded 36 assists for an average of 12 per set and totaled a match-best 12 digs.

Senior Kim Richards (Evergreen Park, Ill./Mother McAuley) hit .538 with eight kills. Senior Sara deBuhr (Urbandale, Iowa/Urbandale) totaled 10 kills on 16 swings to hit .438. Defensively she added five blocks (one solo) and four digs.

"It has been awhile since everyone has produced on offense," Smith said. "We had that at the beginning of the season and it is nice to see it come full circle."

Southern Indiana falls to 12-13 (4-5 Great Lakes Valley Conference). Lewis improves to 22-3 (9-0 GLVC). The Flyers are at home on Saturday, hosting Kentucky Wesleyan at noon and Aquinas at 4:30 p.m.
