EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - Lewis set a team season high with 17 blocks and limited No. 17 Southern Illinois Edwardsville to a .209 hitting percentage, but the Flyers came up short in their bid to take control of first place in the conference standings as Southern Illinois Edwardsville defeated Lewis 30-28, 30-22, 22-30, 30-21 Saturday afternoon. The Flyers dropped to 17-5 (11-2) and had their season-long nine-match streak stopped. SIUE improved to 21-4 (12-0) and kept possession of first place. Stephanie Sagat and Theresa Nugent paced the Flyers' attack, each registering 13 kills. Nugent also collected 12 digs and Sagat had 11. Sagat also managed three solo and two assisted blocks. Lauren Hatter posted a match high of 24 digs and recorded two of the Flyers' six service aces. Sara deBuhr led Lewis with eight blocks, which included three solo stops. Charisse Steckling had five assisted blocks. The Cougars had four players reach double digits in kills, led by Kim Potthast with 17. Kelsey Hubert came up with 14 digs and eight assisted and two solo blocks. She also served three of the Cougars' five aces. The Flyers play next at Wisconsin-Parkside on October 17, at 7:00 p.m. |
