USI Upends Volleyball in Four

Oct. 8, 2005

Final Stats

ROMEOVILLE, Ill.--Six players tallied at least five kills for the Lewis University women's volleyball team, but the Flyers found themselves on the short end of a four-set loss to conference foe Southern Indiana.

Lewis (11-7, 4-3 Great Lakes Valley Conference) opened the match with a thrilling victory in Game 1. Trailing 29-27, Lewis forged a tie at 29-all and scored three of the next four points to grab a 32-30 victory.

Unfortunately, Southern Indiana (14-9, 6-3 GLVC) stymied Lewis' momentum as the Screaming Eagles took the next three games 30-19, 30-22, 30-19.

Becca Lisle and Jenna Sayers paced the team with nine kills apiece. Lisle added a match-high five blocks and Sayers had four blocks.

Libero Andrea Morrone was all over the court on defense, recording a match- and career-high 28 digs.

The turning point in the match came in Game 4. With Lewis leading 17-16, USI rattled off six straight points, including three via service ace, to stake a 22-17 lead. The Screaming Eagles outscored Lewis 14-2 to end the match.

Emily Ryan carried USI with 20 kills, 21 digs, three blocks, four aces and a .381 hitting percentage. Laura Ellerbusch chipped in with 15 kills and a match-high five blocks. Chelse Doubler contributed with 18 kills and a .295 hitting percentage.

With much of the conference bunched up, Lewis' two losses this weekend drop them into sixth place in the league.
