Theresa Nugent is Lewis' all-time kills leader during the rally-scoring era

INDIANAPOLIS - A second consecutive 30-dig effort from Lauren Hatter, a record-setting kills performance from Theresa Nugent and career showings by Charisse Steckling and Sara deBuhr lifted the Lewis Flyers to a big conference win over Indianapolis, ranked fifth in the region, Saturday afternoon.

The Flyers defeated the Greyhounds 31-33, 32-30, 30-27, 30-22, claiming their fifth win in a row and jumping ahead of Indianapolis for second place in the conference standings. Lewis improved its record to 13-4 (7-1), while Indianapolis dropped to 16-5 (7-2).

After falling in the first game of the match 31-33, the Flyers found themselves behind 27-22 in game two before rallying for a 27-27 tie thanks two a couple of Greyhound errors and a Steckling kill. Another Steckling kill followed by a kill from Andrea Morrone sealed the 32-20 win for the Flyers and shifted the momentum of the match.

Lewis went on to three-point win in game three and jumped in front 18-7 in the fourth game before settling for a 30-22 decision.

Hatter's 30 digs came one day after her 33-dig-effort at Saint Joseph's. Nugent collected 17 kills, giving her 1,169 for her career, a Lewis record for the rally-scoring era.

Two other Flyers provided career efforts in the win, as Steckling set a personal best with a match-high 25 kills in a .438 hitting performance, and deBuhr matched her career best with 13 kills. Stephanie Sagat added 18 digs with 13 kills.

Lewis hit a dismal .097 in the first game, but rebounded with a .368 showing in game two and finished with a .237 hitting percentage for the match compared to .196 by the Greyhounds.

The Flyers return home for a match against Missouri-St. Louis on October 6 at 7:00 p.m. and Quincy on October 7 at 1:00 p.m.
