Sept. 17, 2005 ROMEOVILLE, Ill.--The Lewis University women's volleyball team breezed to a 2-0 start in Great Lakes Valley Conference play after sweeping Quincy University Saturday afternoon. Lewis (9-4, 2-0 GLVC) bested the Hawks (3-5, 1-1 GLVC) 30-21, 30-19, 30-20. The victory comes on the heels of a three-game sweep over Missouri-St. Louis the night before. Junior Theresa Nugent and freshman Aubrey Dondlinger carried the Flyer attack, posting 12 kills each. Nugent hit .579 (12k-1e-19att) and added eight digs and four blocks. Dondlinger also hit for a high average, connecting for a .409 clip. As a team, Lewis hit .304, while limiting Quincy to .069. The Flyers had 37 digs and eight blocks. Lewis ran a 6-2 offensive system and setters Abby Hodge and Sarah McKinney tallied 17 and 16 assists, respectively. McKinney was productive hitting as well, registering seven kills and a .500 hitting percentage. Defensively, Charisse Steckling had four blocks and Andrea Morrone recorded 14 digs. Sara Harman and Jennifer Dameworth led Quincy with eight kills apiece. |
