Northern Michigan tops Lewis for the Second Time

Sept. 11, 2004

ROMEOVILLE, Ill.--For the second time in as many meetings, the Northern Michigan women's volleyball team got the better of the Lewis Flyers in four games.

Lewis (7-3) jumped out to an early 1-0 lead, but eventually dropped a 30-26, 21-30, 25-30, 24-30 match to the 10th-ranked Wildcats.

The Flyers beat Northern Michigan (8-0) on the defensive side of the net, but the Wildcats' more consistent offense helped lead them to victory. Lewis held edges in blocks 12-11 and digs 83-80, but was out-hit .202-.143 and had 17 fewer kills (66-49).

Theresa Nugent and Sarah McKinney paced the Flyer offense with 13 kills each. Both players recorded a double-double as they posted 11 and 15 digs, respectively.

Defensively, Rory Harrison led the team with seven blocks, while Maggie Haen had 28 digs. Nugent added six blocks and Jessica Lockhart tallied 16 digs.
