Sept. 10, 2004 ROMEOVILLE, Ill.--Sophomore Sarah McKinney and freshman Andrea Morrone led the Lewis University women's volleyball team to a 3-1 victory over Lake Superior State in the first match of the Great Lakes Region Crossover. McKinney, a 6-0 opposite hitter, pounded a match-high 24 kills and hit .467 (24k-3e-45att) to lead the Flyer offense. Her 24 kills were a career high and she added 10 digs and a service ace in Lewis' 30-26, 25-30, 30-21, 30-26 win. Morrone has won the starting setting job for the team and recorded 52 assists in the four-game match. She led the team to a .205 hitting percentage, while contributing five kills, 17 digs and a pair of blocks. Freshman outside hitter Jessica Lockhart had 12 kills and senior middle hitter Rory Harrison posted 10 kills to round out the Flyer attack. Lake Superior State (3-6) was led by Kristy Kelly's team-high 14 kills. Libero Kristy James tallied a match-high 29 digs. Lewis (6-2) will face Michigan Tech (2-4) later this evening at 7 p.m. |
