Lewis Loses to No. 21 AASU

Final Stats

ROMEOVILLE, Ill.--A pair of youngsters shone in Lewis University's final match of the 2005 Flyer Festival, but their efforts weren't enough against 21st-ranked Armstrong Atlantic State as the Pirates downed Lewis 30-27, 30-28, 30-28.

Sophomore Becca Lisle registered a team-high 12 kills and six blocks while hitting .276 for Lewis (6-2). Freshman Aubrey Dondlinger (Palos Hills, Ill./Stagg) added 10 kills, six digs and five blocks.

Defense was the Blue Light Special of the day as Armstrong (6-3) was limited to a .101 hitting percentage, while Lewis checked in at .087. AASU tallied 67 digs and 12 team blocks in just three games. Comparably, Lewis posted 61 digs and 11 team blocks.

Lewis junior Sarah McKinney recorded eight kills, 26 assists and seven digs.

AASU was led by Addison, Ill. native Christina Flores' 12 kills and 16 digs. Setter Stacy Yates from nearby Shorewood, Ill. passed out 22 assists and had nine digs and two aces.

Minnesota State Moorhead (8-0) claimed the tournament championship as the lone unbeaten, going 4-0 on the weekend. AASU tied for second with a 3-1 record. Lewis tied for fifth in the 11-team tournament.

Lewis will be back in action next weekend when it travels to Findlay, Ohio for a tournament at the University of Findlay.
