PENSACOLA, Fla. - The Lewis Flyers jumped out to a 2-0 start to the 2006 season with a pair of dominating performances in sweeps of Eckerd (30-27, 30-25, 30-27) and Edinboro (30-25, 30-24, 30-24) Friday afternoon at the Comfort Inn-vitational on the campus of West Florida. Sarah McKinney led the way for the Flyers in both matches, totaling 25 kills and 23 digs combined. She secured a double-double in the day's first match, registering a match-high 15 digs along with 12 kills, and she posted a match-best 13 kills along with eight digs against Edinboro. McKinney was one of two Flyers to post a double-double in the Eckerd match. Theresa Nugent added a match-high 14 kills with 12 digs. Contributions also came from Charisse Steckling and Lindsay Grim. Steckling posted 11 kills, while Grim added 12 digs and seven kills. Lewis out-hit Eckerd .224 to .141 and held the advantage in blocks, 6-5. Against Edinboro, Sarah deBuhr dazzled in her collegiate debut by posting 12 kills, four digs and two block assists. Lauren Hatter added a team-best 14 digs, while Nugent chipped in with 12 digs and five kills. Steckling added eight kills and a career-best five service aces. The Flyers hit .250 in the match and served up 14 aces. Lewis resumes action in the Comfort Inn-vitation on Saturday when they face regional foe Ashland at 11:15 a.m. and West Georgia at 3:45 p.m. |
