Oct. 3, 2005 ROMEOVILLE - The Lewis University women's tennis team has qualified for the eight-team Great Lakes Valley Conference Championship and will face Southern Indiana in first-round action Friday at 8:30 a.m. in Owensboro, Ky. The Flyers (7-3, 4-1 GLVC) finished second in the GLVC East Division, while Southern Indiana (4-3, 3-2) placed third in the GLVC West Division. The teams did not meet during the regular season. The Lewis-Southern Indiana winner will play the winner of the first-round match between Drury (No. 1 West) and Bellarmine (No. 4 East) in the semifinals Friday at 4:30 p.m. The Lewis-USI loser will play the Drury-Bellarmine loser Friday at 2 p.m. The championship, third-place, fifth-place and seventh-place matches are scheduled for Saturday. Indianapolis (5-0 GLVC), Lewis, Northern Kentucky (3-2) and Bellarmine (2-3) are the four East Division qualifiers, while Drury (5-0), Rockhurst (4-1), Southern Indiana and Quincy (2-3) qualified out of the West Division. The Flyers finished fourth at the 2004 GLVC Championship. Indianapolis is the defending champion. |
