ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - A total of 140 Lewis University student athletes have been named to the 2006-07 Great Lakes Valley Conference All-Academic team.

Lewis' total is the highest in school history and marks a fifth straight year of increased numbers on the All-Academic team. The Flyers achieved a 25 percent increase over last year's total of 112 Academic All-GLVC honorees.

The Flyers ranked second out of the conference's 14 schools, finishing just behind Indianapolis which placed 149 students on the All-Academic team.

The women's tennis team was the most successful Lewis squad, placing all eight of its players on the all-Academic list. Softball (16 of 18, 89 percent) was second, women's cross country (7 of 8, 88 percent) was third, women's basketball (13 of 16, 81 percent) was fourth, and women's volleyball (10 of 14, 71 percent) rounded out the top five.

To be selected All-Academic, a student athlete must have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.2 or higher or have registered a GPA of 3.4 or higher in each of his or her two most recent semesters.
