ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - Jenn Kulick fired a five-hit shutout Friday to lead No. 3 seed Gannon to a 3-0 victory over No. 2 Lewis in a Division II Great Lakes Regional elimination game. Lewis (34-14), ranked 15th nationally, advanced only two runners as far as third base. Kulick (20-7) struck out four, walked three and did not allow an extra-base hit. Gannon (38-14), the nation's 23rd-ranked team, scored the only run it would need in the first inning. Jaclyn Corroto led off with a single and moved station to station on a wild pitch, a sacrifice by Kristina Damis and Casee Piquet's RBI single. The Knights made it 2-0 in the fifth. Steph Christ's RBI single plated Damis, who reached on a leadoff single and advanced to second on Piquet's sacrifice. Piquet's seventh-inning leadoff home run provided Kulick an insurance tally. Gannon's Holli Michaels was 2-for-3 and Lewis' Kristy Vanek was 2-for-2. Beth Shelus, Kelly Dianis and Lisa Gartland also had hits for Lewis. Lewis starter Courtney Lyons (15-6), who allowed two runs, five hits and two walks while fanning three in 4 1/3 innings, absorbed the loss for the host Flyers. |
