OWENSBORO, Ky.--Freshman Carla Musillo launched three triples and a pair of freshmen pitchers registered complete game shutouts in a doubleheader sweep of Kentucky Wesleyan.

The Lewis University softball team improved to 18-13 overall and 6-2 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference with 8-0 and 9-0 wins over the Panthers (5-23, 0-10 GLVC).

Musillo, who was 2 for 3 in both games, had a pair of triples in the opener and added her third of the day in the nightcap.

Robin Martz also had two hits in the opener as she went 2 for 2 with a triple, two runs scored and a walk. She finished 2 for 4 in game 2 with a walk and a run scored. She reached base on errors twice in the second game to earn her way on in all eight of her plate appearances for the day.

In game 1, Beth Shelus and Amy Yusko had two RBI each, while Mallory Paine had a double and two RBI. Shannon Roney added a double and two runs scored to the offensive output in the first game.

In the circle, Kasey DeLair (4-2) threw her third complete-game shutout of the season as she stifled the Panther offense to just one hit in five innings of work.

Game 2 saw Roney (5-5) hurl a six-hit shutout with three strikeouts and no walks. She also helped her own cause with a triple.

The Flyers return to action Tuesday, April 12 when they travel to Robert Morris-Springfield for a 3 p.m. doubleheader.
