Junior Jenna Volpi upped her team-leading goals total to six on the season.

Volpi's Two Goals, Assist End Flyers' GLVC Road Drought

Oct. 21, 2005

Final Stats

OWENSBORO, Ky.--Junior Jenna Volpi scored a pair of goals and assisted on another as the Lewis University women's soccer team defeated Kentucky Wesleyan 3-1.

Lewis' junior forward helped the Flyers erase a four-year, 26-game conference winless streak. The last time Lewis won a conference road game was Oct. 22, 2000, when the Flyers beat Kentucky Wesleyan 2-1 in double overtime.

The Flyers' victory improves their record to 6-11-2 overall and 3-7-2 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. This marks the third straight year that the Flyers have won more games than they did the previous season; Lewis was 5-11-1 and 2-7-1 last season.

Kentucky Wesleyan (1-16, 0-12 GLVC) opened the scoring on a goal by Jill Deibler at 27:20. The tally was KWC's first goal in conference play this season.

Senior Loren Pellizzari answered a little over a minute later with her third goal of the season. Volpi was credited with the assist.

Volpi then put the Flyers ahead for good with a penalty-kick goal. She later notched an insurance goal in the second half at 53:24. Sophomore Allison Wilkerson assisted on Volpi's second goal.

Volpi's two goals and five points increase her team-leading totals to six goals and 13 points. She matched her career-high single-season goals total that she established as a freshman, and is one point shy of her career-high 14 points.

Lewis will conclude its season with a road game against Southern Indiana Sunday, Oct. 23.
