ROMEOVILLE, Ill.--The Lewis University women's soccer team fell to Wheeling Jesuit in the first of a pair of difficult games the team will play this weekend. The Flyers (2-3) fell behind 2-0 in the first half before eventually losing 4-1 to the Cardinals (4-0). Wheeling Jesuit recorded its first goal at 18:25 on a tally by Megan Graham. The Cardinals' Meghan O'Rourke pushed the score to 2-0 with a goal at 43:02. WJ put the game out of reach with its third tally early in the second half. Tina Holeczy scored at 58:35 with an assist from Lauren Deschamps. Lewis got on the board at 70:05 when sophomore Jenna Volpi was fouled in the goal box. Volpi connected on the ensuing penalty kick to trim the score to 3-1. However, O'Rourke picked up her second goal of the game minutes later. She headed in a loose ball in the goal box at 76:56 for the game's final tally. Lewis will next face Grand Valley State at 2:30 p.m. Sunday. |
