Sept. 6, 2006

Box Score

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - Lewis held its own against No. 5 Grand Valley State for one half of play, but the Lakers overpowered the Flyers in the second half en route to a 7-0 win, Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action at the Lewis Soccer Field.

The game was scoreless for the first 15 minutes, but then Irie Dennis put the Lakers on the board when she took a cross pass from the left side and booted the ball up and over the right side of Lewis goalkeeper Lindsay Frederick at 15:25.

Lewis held tough for the remainder of the half and settled for a 1-0 at the break.

It was all Lakers in the second half, as the score jumped to 4-0 by the game's 55th minute.

Lakers' leading scorer Katy Tafler netted her ninth and 10th goals of the season in less than two minutes when she slipped one by Frederick at 51:04 and knocked another one in at 52:30.

Dennis added her second goal of the game 54:59. Other scorers for Grand Valley State were Andi Redmond (69:22), Katie Rozum (86:41) and Erica Rose (87:32).

Frederick had 10 saves for the Flyers, while Elaine Felten, Heather Ywaniw and Kari Huizinga each registered shots for Lewis.

The Flyers play next on Friday at conference foe Indianapolis at 7:30 p.m.
