Maine West Standout Kellogg Signs With Flyers

Nov. 30, 2006

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - Courtney Kellogg of Des Plaines, a two-time IHSA sectional qualifier at Maine West High School, has signed a National Letter-of-Intent to play golf at Lewis University.

Kellogg, a three-year letter winner and two-time team captain and Most Valuable Player, earned a place on the Central Suburban League North all-conference team the past three seasons and qualified for sectional competition as a sophomore and junior. She played on the Maine West boys' golf team her freshman and sophomore years before the school initiated the girls' golf program.

The medalist in 13 tournaments the past two seasons, Kellogg registered nine-hole averages of 41.3 as a senior and 42.4 as a junior. She received the IHSA Award of Excellence three times, was selected a CSL Scholar Athlete this year and was named a Pioneer Press Fall Star as a sophomore and junior. Kellogg was the 2006 junior champion at Elgin Country Club.

Kellogg, a daughter of Jerry and Eugenia Kellogg, is a National Honor Society member and honor roll student who has received Maine West's annual awards in biology, chemistry and U.S. history. She will earn her fourth varsity letter in track and field next spring.

"Courtney is an excellent player with strong fundamentals and a very positive approach to golf," Lewis coach Skip Steffey said. "I believe she will work to improve her game and help our team build the quality and depth we need to continue to climb in the Great Lakes Valley Conference standings and compete for an NCAA berth.

"Courtney is a competitor who never settles for anything short of excellence on the course and in the classroom," Steffey added. "I look for great things from her throughout her Lewis career."
