2009-10 Lewis University Television Schedule in PDF Format
Romeoville, Ill. - Lewis University Director of Athletics Dan Schumacher and Lakeshore Public Television announced on Wednesday (Sept. 9) that they have reached a two-year agreement to televise eight Flyers athletics events a year, including women's volleyball, men's basketball, women's basketball and men's volleyball. The Flyers and Lakeshore began their partnership in 2008-09, as one men's volleyball match and two men's basketball games were televised to over three million households throughout the Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana area. Schumacher saw the benefits of what those telecasts brought to not only the Athletics Department, but the University as well. "You can't measure the amount of exposure we received from just those three games," Schumacher said. "It made perfect sense for us to continue our partnership with Lakeshore." Lakeshore President Thomas Carroll echoed Schumacher's sentiments. "Lakeshore Public Television's partnership with Lewis University Athletics is a natural extension of our commitment to delivering quality sports programming to the Chicagoland audience," Carroll said. With the inclusion of women's basketball and women's volleyball to the package, along with halftime interviews of the other eight Lewis coaches, the entire Flyer Athletics program will be represented. "This television package is not just for basketball and volleyball, but for all 18 of our sports," Schumacher said. "I want all of our coaches to be able to utilize the same medium and exposure to promote their respective teams." The Lewis women's volleyball team, preseason favorites to win the Great Lakes Valley Conference, will be the first Flyers' broadcast, as they host Southern Indiana for a 7 p.m. first serve on Friday, October 23rd. Two weeks later, the Flyers are back in action as they welcome Drury to Neil Carey Arena for a 7 p.m. showdown on November 6th. Lewis head women's basketball coach Lisa Carlsen and her Flyers open the home GLVC campaign on Lakeshore, as they welcome Missouri-St. Louis to Neil Carey Arena at 5:30 p.m. on December 3rd. The Flyers are back on the airwaves on January 30th, as they take on Southern Indiana for a 1 p.m. first tip. The Lewis men's basketball team will have two contests televised during the month of February. The Lewis men's volleyball squad, who finished the 2009 campaign ranked 12th in the nation, will have their hands full as they square off with NCAA Final Four participant Ohio State (Feb. 12th, 7 p.m.) and local rival Loyola-Chicago (Feb. 23rd, 7 p.m.), live on Lakeshore. Lakeshore PTV can be viewed over the air and on satellite through DirecTV and Dish Network on Channel 56, on cable channel 17 in most Northwest Indiana communities, and on 18 and 21 in Chicago and its suburbs. A Catholic University sponsored by the De La Salle Christian Brothers, Lewis offers nearly 80 undergraduate majors and programs of study, accelerated degree completion options for working adults, various aviation programs and 22 graduate programs in nine fields. The mid-sized university is being honored for the fifth consecutive year by The Princeton Review and U.S. News & World Report. For more information please visit www.lewisu.edu. ##LEWIS## |
