Jenny Turpel Named To Daktronics All-Midwest Region Women's Basketball Second Team

March 11, 2009

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - Lewis University sophomore Jenny Turpel (Johnsburg, Ill./Johnsburg) has been named to the Daktronics All-Midwest Region Division II Women's Basketball Second Team, as voted on by the members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Turpel finished the 2008-09 season tied for second in the conference in scoring (18.5 per game), seventh in blocks (1.00 per game) and ninth in rebounding (6.9 per game). She tallied 13 20+ point contests and 27 straight games of double-digit points.

The honor is the latest in a string of accolades for Turpel. Last week she was named to the All-Great Lakes Valley Conference Second Team and GLVC All-Tournament Team. Earlier this year she earned her first career GLVC Player of the Week Award.

"Jenny had a fantastic season and continues to improve her game," head coach Lisa Carlsen said. "I have no doubt she is one of the best players in the region."

Turpel is the fourth player in the program's history to earn all-region honors.

A Catholic University sponsored by the De La Salle Christian Brothers, Lewis offers nearly 80 undergraduate majors and programs of study, accelerated degree completion options for working adults, various aviation programs and 22 graduate programs in nine fields. The mid-sized university is being honored for the fifth consecutive year by The Princeton Review and U.S. News & World Report. For more information please visit www.lewisu.edu.
