Flyer Women Fall to Defending GLVC Champs :: Moskal Scores 25 in loss to Hawks

QUINCY, Ill. - The 2004 Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Year, Quincy's Jessica Stuckman, stymied the Lewis University women's basketball team by tallying 30 points and 15 rebounds in a 58-49 defeat of the visiting Flyers.

Lewis sophomore Mary Moskal nearly matched Stuckman's performance, scoring a team-high 25 points. Moskal went 8 of 10 from the field and 9 of 12 from the free-throw line. She also pulled down four rebounds and had three steals.

Lewis (2-3, 1-1 GLVC) held the Hawks to 8 of 27 shooting in the first half and led 30-27 at the break. The Flyers kept Quincy (4-1, 2-0 GLVC) scoreless for the final 2:19 of the half and converted a 27-23 deficit to a three-point halftime lead.

The Flyers utilized an 11-2 run over a three-minute span beginning at the 9:51 mark to build their largest lead of the first half. Lewis led 18-13 with 6:47 to play, but Quincy registered eight unanswered points and reclaimed the lead 21-18. Flyer sophomore Erin Cox then hit a 3-pointer at 3:53 to tie the game for the fifth time.

The Hawks quickly tied the game at 31-all in the first minute of the second half. Stuckman continued the run with a 3-pointer at 16:34 that gave Quincy a 34-31 lead.

Eventually, Quincy led 38-33 before Lewis answered and re-tied the game at 38-all after Shante Glenn connected on a 3-pointer at 12:40. Glenn's basket began a six-minute scoring drought that ended when Moskal made a lay up at 6:48.

Despite the scoring lapse, the Flyers trailed just 43-40. Unfortunately, that would be as close as Lewis could get. Quincy made 6 of 7 free throws in the final two minutes and pulled away for the nine-point win.

Glenn had 10 points and three rebounds and was 2 of 4 from beyond the 3-point arc. In addition, Erin Cox added eight points, while Brittney Diener had two assists, three steals and a team-high seven rebounds.

After playing their first five games on the road, the Flyers will host their first home game on Dec. 2; Lewis will face Southern Indiana at 5:30 p.m. in Neil Carey Arena.
