ROMEOVILLE - Freshman Kelly Dianis scored a game-high 25 points, including 19 in the second half, to spark Lewis to an impressive 71-53 victory over Michigan Tech Saturday in the GLVC-GLIAC Challenge.

Dianis, making her first collegiate start, connected on all four of her 3-point attempts in the second half and finished 5-of-7 from beyond the arc. She also was 6-of-8 at the foul line to help the Flyers (1-1) outscore the Huskies (1-1) 20-5 at the stripe.

Darcee Schmidt collected 14 points and seven rebounds, and Shante Glenn had a double-double (10 points, game-high 10 rebounds) and five assists. Mary Moskal scored 10 points and Brittney Diener had six assists, three steals and two blocked shots.

Michigan Tech scored the first 10 points of the game and held Lewis without a point for more than six minutes. The Flyers didn't panic, however, and when Moskal made two free throws with 1:07 left, the game was knotted at 24 and stayed that way until the break.

The Huskies briefly held a pair of two-point leads early in the second half before a Glenn 3-pointer put the Flyers ahead to stay, 31-28, at the 17:11 mark. The trey was part of a 21-7 Lewis outburst that gave the Flyers a 47-35 cushion with 12:25 to play, and the lead remained in double digits.

Lewis shot 64 percent from the floor in the second half to finish at 44 percent. The Flyer defense limited Tech to 36 percent shooting and forced 19 turnovers; Lewis committed just seven turnovers.

Catherine Rottier scored 16 points and Jenna Bartels added 12 points and nine rebounds for Michigan Tech. Ashley Zehren had a game-high seven assists.
