EAST PEORIA, Ill. - Sophomore Devon Carbaugh (Sterling, Ill./Sterling) scored 14 points and grabbed four rebounds in 22 minutes of action but the Bradley Braves defeated Lewis 93-62 in an exhibition contest on Sunday afternoon. Bradley took a 23-16 lead with 7:56 left in the first on a three-point play by Raisa Taylor. Carbaugh answered with a conventional 3-pointer to cut Bradley's lead to four again. However the Braves finished the half on a 21-10 run to take a 15-point lead into the break. A layup by Lewis junior Jenny Turpel (Johnsburg, Ill./Johnsburg) started the scoring in the second half. The Braves kept the pressure on and took a 60-40 advantage with 13:45 remaining on a jumper by Olivia Allen. Bradley controlled the rest of the way. Turpel also finished with 14 points on 5-of-8 shooting. Senior Kelly Dianis (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central) added eight points. Sonya Harris led Bradley with 15 points. "When you have a team with the firepower like Bradley has, once they get it going you need to find a way to stop it," head coach Lisa Carlsen said. "We just didn't do that today. However we got some quality minutes that you can't get in practice." The Braves out-shot Lewis 52.3 percent to 38.0 percent. The Flyers made 17-of-26 free throws while Bradley made 16-of-20. Bradley improves to 1-0 in exhibitions this year. Lewis falls to 0-1 in preseason play. The Flyers play their second of three exhibition contests at Illinois on Sunday. Tipoff is slated for 11:30 a.m. at Assembly Hall. ##LEWIS##
