Box Score

ST. LOUIS - The Lewis University women's basketball team jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the first two and a half minutes against Missouri-St. Louis and never looked back as the Flyers coasted to a 78-48 victory.

Lewis (13-9, 10-5 Great Lakes Valley Conference) built a 33-17 halftime lead and extended that margin to as many as 35 points in the second half. The Flyers shot 47.5 percent from the field for the game, while limiting UMSL to 40.8 percent. UMSL's 48 points were the fewest allowed by the Flyers this season.

The Flyers utilized a 14-4 run in the opening seven minutes of the second half to help extinguish any hopes the Riverwomen harbored of overcoming the 16-point first-half deficit.

Junior Shante Glenn led all scorers with 21 points. She finished 9 of 14 from the field and also set a career high with seven steals.

Sophomore Darcee Schmidt added 17 points and six rebounds and was 6 of 11 from the field.

Fellow sophomore Mary Moskal chipped in with 17 points and a team-high six assists. She also was 9 of 9 from the free-throw line.

Senior Becca Grappin came off the bench to contribute 11 points on 5 of 8 shooting in 17 minutes.

The victory moves Lewis into a four-way tie for third place in the GLVC. The Flyers are tied with Northern Kentucky, Bellarmine and Indianapolis one-half game behind second-place Wisconsin-Parkside.

Lewis returns to action Saturday when it travels to Southern Indiana (12-10, 5-10 GLVC) for a 1 p.m. game.
