Men's Cross Country Ranked 19th Nationally

ROMEOVILLE - The Lewis University men's cross country team moved up one spot to No. 19 in this week's Cross Country Coaches Association NCAA Division II national poll.

The Flyers, who compete at the Stegemoller Classic in Evansville, Ind., this Saturday, are ranked No. 5 in the Great Lakes Region behind Grand Valley State (Mich.), Hillsdale (Mich.), Southern Indiana and Southern Illinois Edwardsville.

Adams State (Colo.) is No. 1 in the national poll, followed in the top 10 by Western State (Colo.), California State-Chico, Harding (Ark.), Abilene Christian (Texas), Grand Valley State, Massachusetts-Lowell, Minnesota State-Mankato, Minnesota-Duluth and Stonehill (Mass.).

Lock Haven (Pa.) leads the second 10 at No. 11, followed by Hillsdale, California-San Diego, Colorado-Colorado Springs, Cal Poly-Pomona, Truman State (Mo.), Cal Poly-Pomona, Southern Connecticut State, Southern Indiana, Edinboro (Pa.), Lewis and Alaska-Anchorage. Kennesaw State (Ga.), Southern Illinois Edwardsville, Fort Hays State (Kan.), Shippensburg (Pa.) and Central Missouri State round out the top 25.

The Stegemoller Classic will be run on the University of Southern Indiana course, site of the 2004 NCAA Division II Championships. Fifteen teams from 11 different states will participate, including seven squads that competed at the 2003 Division II national meet.
