ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - The Lewis University men's cross country team is rated No. 23 nationally and No. 5 in the Great Lakes Region in the U.S. Track & Field/Cross Country Coaches Association NCAA Division II preseason rankings.

The Flyers are one of five Great Lakes Region teams ranked among the top 25. Grand Valley State is No. 5, Saginaw Valley State is No. 8, Southern Indiana is No. 11 and Wayne State is No. 12. Those four teams precede Lewis in the regional ranking.

Hillsdale heads the second half of the Great Lakes Region top 10 at No. 6, followed by Ashland, Southern Illinois Edwardsville, Northwood and Northern Kentucky.

Lewis, led by defending Great Lakes Valley Conference champion and All-American Andy Tremble, opens the season Friday at North Central College's Chuck Carroll Invitational. The Flyers were runners-up to Southern Indiana at the 2005 GLVC Championship.
