Cross Country Teams Among Nation's Top Academic Performers

March 27, 2007

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - The 2006 Lewis University women's and men's cross country teams have been named All-Academic by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

In addition, four Flyer runners received individual All-Academic honors from the USTFCCCA.

The Lewis women are one of 92 NCAA Division II women's squads earning the team honor, while the Lewis men are among 57 Division II men's teams recognized.

The Flyer women posted an aggregate 3.66 grade-point average last fall and tied for eighth place among Division II teams. The Flyer men registered a 3.32 GPA, good for a 13th-place tie.

Seniors Andy Tremble and Larry Anzalone and junior Andrew Northrup of the men's team, and junior Terran Wertz of the women's team, garnered individual All-Academic accolades. To qualify, a student athlete must have at least a 3.25 cumulative GPA (4.0 scale) and finish among the top 30 at his or her NCAA regional championship meet.

The Flyer women's team is comprised of Wertz; seniors Juliann Szablewski, Amanda Hammond and Renee Koziol; and juniors Theresa Dexl, Becky Herbert, Kristin Johnson and Kelle Lederman.

Joining Tremble, Anzalone and Northrup on the men's squad are seniors Mike Eck and Adrian Myers; juniors Emory Burdette, Sinan Khamo, Jared Lauer, Evan Sather, Alberto Villa and Kevin Dockemeyer; sophomores Jeff Ritzema, Ryan Sather and Ryan Stephenson; and freshman Mark Martinez.
