Andy Tremble and Terran Wertz

Tremble, Wertz Garner Top GLVC Academic Award

Jan. 30, 2006

ROMEOVILLE - Junior Andy Tremble and sophomore Terran Wertz of Lewis University have been named Great Lakes Valley Conference 2005 Scholar Athlete of the Year for men's cross country and women's cross country, respectively.

Each year, the GLVC selects one student athlete in each conference sport as Scholar Athlete of the Year. The award is based upon athletic accomplishments and academic performance in the current season, and recipients are selected by a vote of member institutions' faculty athletics representatives.

A nursing major, Tremble became Lewis' first men's cross country All-American since 2001 when he finished 32nd at the NCAA Division II Championship. He won the GLVC title, earning his second All-GLVC honor and running an 8K career-best time of 24:26.37 at the conference meet, and was named GLVC Runner of the Year as the Flyers placed second. Tremble garnered all-region accolades by finishing sixth at the NCAA Division II Great Lakes Regional Championship.

Tremble was selected GLVC Runner of the Week after finishing eighth among 270 runners overall and second among NCAA Division II runners at the Loyola Lakefront Invitational. He placed third among 265 runners overall and first among 162 non-NCAA Division I competitors at the National Catholic Invitational.

Wertz, a finance major who made the fall Deans' List, led the Flyers in every meet and made the All-GLVC team by finishing sixth at the GLVC Championship. She placed a solid 55th at the NCAA Division II Great Lakes Regional Championship.

Wertz was 35th among 277 runners overall and fourth among 170 non-NCAA Division I runners at the National Catholic Invitational; 29th among 209 runners at the Loyola Lakefront Invitational; 14th among 216 runners at the Border War Invitational; and eighth among 75 runners at the North Central College Invitational.
