BIG RAPIDS, Mich. - Lewis University junior Andy Tremble earned all-region honors and punched his ticket to the national meet Saturday at the NCAA Division II Great Lakes Regional Cross Country Championship. Tremble, who earlier this season won the Great Lakes Valley Conference title, placed sixth among 141 competitors. He garnered a berth in the NCAA Division II Championship, scheduled for Nov. 19 in Pomona, Calif., by being one of the top two finishers who are not members of the four national qualifying teams. Tremble covered the 10,000-meter route in 31:57.1. Sophomores Andrew Northrup (26th, 32:57.5) and Sinan Khamo (35th, 33:17.3) also finished in the top one-quarter of the standings, with junior Larry Anzalone (77th, 34:24.7) and senior Chris Foley (89th, 34:40.2) completing the Lewis scoring group. Sophomores Alberto Villa (97th, 34:54.8) and Emory Burdette (100th, 35:02.1) also competed for the Flyers, who tied for eighth in the 20-team field. "Qualifying for the NCAA Championship is a great accomplishment for Andy," Lewis head coach Rick Wemple said. "I thought Andrew and Sinan also ran very good races. "Unfortunately, we struggled as a team," Wemple added. "The course was hilly, and we weren't prepared for it. The hills ate us up." |
