KENOSHA, Wis. - Senior Andy Tremble earned a trip to the NCAA Division II Men's Cross Country Championship for a second consecutive year by finishing second Saturday at the Division II Great Lakes Regional Championship.

Tremble improved four spots over his sixth-place regional finish of last season and covered the 10,000-meter course in 31:41.3. He will compete in the national meet Nov. 18 in Pensacola, Fla., and attempt to make the All-America list for a second time after finishing 32nd in the nation last year.

"Kudos to Andy for qualifying for nationals," Lewis head coach Rick Wemple said. "He ran a great race today."

Unfortunately, the Flyers failed in their attempt to qualify for the national meet as a team. Needing to finish among the top five in the 23-team race, Lewis placed seventh and was just 11 points behind fifth-place Southern Indiana.

"Our team finish is very disappointing," Wemple said. "I think I would rather finish 50 points out of a qualifying spot than just 11 points. It was within our grasp, but we just didn't compete as well as a team as we did at the conference meet two weeks ago.

"We had an up-and-down season; sometimes we were on, sometimes we were off. Unfortunately, more of our runners were off than were on today."

Andrew Northrup finished 19th (33:04.3), Larry Anzalone was 36th (33:38.1), Mark Martinez placed 61st (34:12.3) and Alberto Villa finished 70th (34:32.4) to join Tremble in the Flyers' scoring group. Jeff Ritzema placed 76th (34:50.6).

"Mark Martinez had a great race," Wemple said. "He really stepped up and was our No. 4 runner."
