Oct. 22, 2005 RENSSELAER, Ind. - Andy Tremble captured the individual title Saturday to lead Lewis University to a solid runner-up finish at the Great Lakes Valley Conference Cross Country Championship. Tremble, who collected All-GLVC and GLVC Runner of the Year accolades by winning the conference crown, covered the 8,000-meter course in 24:26.37, more than eight seconds faster than runner-up Rey Alvarez of Southern Indiana. The All-GLVC honor is the second of his career. Sinan Khamo (25:18.58) and Larry Anzalone (25:24.62) narrowly missed earning all-conference honors (top 10) by placing 11th and 13th, respectively. Andrew Northrup (17th, 25:33.58) and Chris Foley (23rd, 25:47.27) completed the Lewis scoring group, while Alberto Villa (28th, 25:55.49) and Emory Burdette (30th, 25:57.11) rounded out the Flyers' top seven. Southern Indiana (26 points) won the meet. Lewis scored 63 points and was followed by Southern Illinois Edwardsville (94), Indianapolis (112), Wisconsin-Parkside (143), Northern Kentucky (162), Missouri-Rolla (168), Drury (190), Saint Joseph's (253) and Bellarmine (269). "I thought we ran very, very well," Head Coach Rick Wemple said, "but Southern Indiana placed six runners in the top 10 and obviously that's hard to beat." Also competing for Lewis were Dustin Long, 32nd (25:58.27); Josh Thompson, 37th (26:04.21); Adrian Myers, 70th (26:48.49); Darren Orange, 75th (26:52.52); Evan Sather, 82nd (27:07.62); Jeff Ritzema, 89th (27:25.90); Jared Lauer, 90th (27:30.74); Mike Eck, 102nd (28:20.87); Adam Singleton, 103rd (28:37.81); Alex Nemeth, 105th (29:03.68); and Albert Escanilla, 115th (30:06.52). The Flyers compete at the NCAA Division II Great Lakes Regional Championship Nov. 5 in Big Rapids, Mich. |
