Oct. 8, 2005 EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - Sinan Khamo, Andrew Northrup, Larry Anzalone and Andy Tremble finished 35th through 38th in a 286-runner field, and the Lewis University men placed sixth among 29 teams Saturday at the Border War Cross Country Invitational. Khamo covered the 8,000-meter course in 26:37.97, followed by Northrup (26:38.36), Anzalone (26:38.71) and Tremble (26:39.01). Chris Foley (74th, 27:14.67) completed the Lewis scoring group, while Alberto Villa (82nd, 27:25.08) and Dustin Long (105th, 27:39.86) rounded out the Flyers' top seven. Also competing were Josh Thompson (119th, 27:47.40), Emory Burdette (124th, 27:52.25), Evan Sather (142nd, 28:05.02), Adrian Myers (145th, 28:09.52), Darren Orange (158th, 28:21.29), Mike Eck (198th, 29:08.70), Albert Escanilla (204th, 29:14.19), Jared Lauer (205th, 29:16.14) and Adam Singleton (206th, 29:16.56). "We treated this meet as more of a tempo run and practice than a race, and because of that we purposely went out at a controlled pace," Head Coach Rick Wemple said. "The guys did a phenomenal job of pacing and turned in an outstanding workout. And, even though we weren't concerned with where we placed in the team standings, we still managed to finish sixth and weren't too far behind SIU Edwardsville." The Flyers take a week off before traveling to Rensselaer, Ind., October 22nd to defend their 2004 title at the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championship. |
