Louisville, Ky. - For the second-straight week, Lewis University sophomore Rocky Medero (River Grove, Ill./Guerin Prep) led his teammates with a 32nd-place time of 26:48.70 in the 8K Greater Louisville Classic Blue race, as the Flyers finished 14th out of 33 teams with 394 points at Tom Sawyer State Park on Saturday afternoon.

"We ran about what I thought we would against some good competition today," Lewis head men's cross country coach Dana Schwarting said. "I'm satisfied with the performance and with the (GLVC Conference) championships being held here, it can only help us in the long run."

Lindenwood won the race, led by individual champion Mustapha Habbani (25:33.33), with 61 points. Mercer was the runner-up team with 151 points, followed by Southern Indiana (153), William Woods (162) and Concord University (198).

Lewis sophomore Scott Tanis (Yorkville, Ill./Yorkville) placed 42nd overall with a time of 27:00.70, while freshman Thomas Campbell (St. Louis, Mo./Parkway West) was the third Flyer to cross the finish line in 28:03.80. Senior John Deutsch (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles East) ran 28:29.30, while Rigoberto Bernal (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Central) rounded out the top five with a mark of 28:50.10.

Lewis returns to action next Saturday (Oct. 10), as they will race in the Lucian Rosa Open, hosted by UW-Parkside, at 11:30 a.m.

A Catholic university sponsored by the De La Salle Christian Brothers, Lewis offers nearly 80 undergraduate majors and programs of study, accelerated degree completion options for working adults, various aviation programs and 22 graduate programs in nine fields. The 10th largest private, not-for-profit university in Illinois is being honored for the sixth consecutive year by The Princeton Review and U.S. News & World Report.
