CHICAGO - Andy Tremble turned in a career-best performance Saturday at the 33rd annual Sean Earl Loyola Lakefront Invitational cross country meet.

Tremble clocked a 24:53, his first time to break 25 minutes, and finished eighth among 270 competitors in the 28-team Gold Division that included 18 NCAA Division I squads. He shattered his previous career best of 25:17, set two weeks ago at the National Catholic Invitational, by 24 seconds.

In finishing 13th, the Flyers defeated Division I teams Xavier, Southern Illinois, Missouri State, Central Florida, Evansville, Illinois-Chicago, Southeast Missouri State, Illinois State, Creighton, Marshall, DePaul and Valparaiso.

Joining Tremble in the Lewis top seven were Sinan Khamo, 70th (25:59); Andrew Northrup, 99th (26:19); Larry Anzalone, 134th (26:50); Alberto Villa, 190th (27:49); Emory Burdette, 193rd (27:51); and Evan Sather, 215th (28:21).

"Andy ran an awesome race and Sinan ran pretty well, too, just a few seconds within his time at the National Catholic," Head Coach Rick Wemple said.

Also competing for the Flyers were Adrian Myers, 222nd (28:28); Albert Escanilla, 228th (28:41); Jeff Ritzema, 233rd (28:47); Mike Eck, 238th (29:13); Jared Lauer, 240th (29:15); and Adam Singleton, 255th (30:18).

While disappointed with the 13th-place finish, Wemple knows what the problem was and how to correct it.

"We went out way too fast," Wemple said. "The opening mile is something we'll need to work on. Once we make adjustments to that, we'll run much better times."
