KENOSHA, Wis. - Behind top-25 finishes by Larry Anzalone and Andrew Northrup, the Lewis University men's cross country team placed fifth among 18 teams Saturday at the Midwest Collegiate Open. Anzalone finished 18th, covering the 8,000-meter course in 26:48, while Northrup placed 21st in 26:57. Evan Sather (55th, 28:08), Mark Martinez (58th, 28:13) and Ryan Sather (60th, 28:15) completed the Flyers' scoring group, while Kevin Dockemeyer (69th, 28:29) and Jared Lauer (114th, 29:35) also competed. "The guys struggled with the hilly course," head coach Rick Wemple said. "But this is the same course where the NCAA regional will be run, and I wanted to expose the team to the hills so they'll have an idea what to train for. "All in all it wasn't a bad performance," Wemple added. "Even without Andy Tremble, Sinan Khamo, Emory Burdette, Alberto Villa and Jeff Ritzema, we still managed to finish fifth." |
