Sept. 8, 2006 NAPERVILLE, Ill. - Three Lewis University runners finished among the top 10 to lead the Flyers to a strong second-place finish at North Central College's Chuck Carroll Invitational on Friday. Andrew Northrup placed third (26:40), Andy Tremble was fourth (26:40) and Larry Anzalone finished sixth (26:46) on the 8,000-meter course. Kevin Dockemeyer (21st, 28:09) and Ryan Sather (24th, 28:14) completed the Lewis scoring group. Also competing for the Flyers in their season opener were Evan Sather (25th, 28:16), Jared Lauer (27th, 28:19), Mark Martinez (31st, 28:40), Ryan Stephenson (39th, 29:12) and Mike Eck (50th, 30:07). Lewis scored 42 points and trailed only host North Central, which tallied 31 points. "The team looked great, everybody ran well," head coach Rick Wemple said. "Northrup, Tremble and Anzalone ran a good tempo with the lead pack, and the rest of the guys also ran a good pace before I turned them loose at the four-mile mark. "We purposely held out three of our top eight runners (Emory Burdette, Alberto Villa and Sinan Khamo)," Wemple added. "When we add them to the mix, I like our chances of having a really strong team." |
