PEORIA, Ill. - The Lewis University men's cross country team won the non-NCAA Division I competition Friday at the Bradley University Open. The Flyers scored 20 points and were followed by Greenville (56), Olivet Nazarene (69), Illinois Central (113), Lincoln (127) and MacMurray (185). Lewis' Larry Cardenas was the top runner among non-Division I competitors. Cardenas finished 24th overall among 184 runners and covered the 8,000-meter course in 25:51.17. The Flyers' scoring group also included Andy Tremble (third in non-Division I, 36th overall), 26:07.06; Braulio Benitez (fourth, 40th), 26:09.60; Willie Nelson (fifth, 44th), 26:13.02; and Larry Anzalone (seventh, 72nd), 26:59.89. Josh Thompson (eighth, 81st, 27:12.20) and Chris Foley (10th, 89th, 27:19.88) rounded out the Lewis top seven. Also competing (overall places available only) were Darren Orange (90th, 27:20.19), Dustin Long (94th, 27:25.72), Brad Fox (96th, 27:28.35), John Archer (135th, 28:49.51), Adrian Myers (140th, 28:57.57), Brad Rackow (147th, 29:28.95), Mike Eck (151st, 29:44.98), Nick Wyatt (154th, 29:53.97), Cris Nica (161st, 30:29.81) and Erik Donovan (172nd, 31:46.10). |
