Men's Volleyball Adds Three Recruits

May 29, 2007

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - Lewis University men's volleyball coach Dan Friend has announced three additions to his 2007-08 recruiting class.

Brian Muesenfechter (Town and Country, Mo./Christian Brothers College H.S.), Aaron Flick (Lakewood, Ohio/St. Edward H.S.), and Matthew Gallik (Chicago, Ill./Brother Rice) have each committed to Lewis for the 2008 season.

Muesenfechter, a 6-foot-6 outside hitter, earned four varsity letters in high school. Named among the "Players to Watch" by the St. Louis Post Dispatch as a senior, Muesenfechter led the St. Louis area (large schools division) in kills and aces. He was named Athlete of the Week by Fox 2 News and was a USA Youth National Team A2 selection. In addition, Muesenfechter was a starter for St Louis High Performance 18's team.

"Brian is a great addition to the Flyer's roster," Friend said. "With his canning court awareness and solid net play we will look for Brian to make an immediate impact on the squad. He is a big sized young man with a lot of potential to dominate in the MIVA."

Flick, 6-foot-6 middle hitter, earned two varsity letters in high school. As senior, Flick averaged 9.9 kills and 4.1 blocks per match. During his junior season, Flick was named his team's Offensive Player of the Year and was an all-state special mention. Flick has club experience with the Northcoast Volleyball Club, most recently helping his team to second-place finishes at three tournaments and a third-place showing in a regional tournament. Flick is a high honor roll student and a member of the National Honor Society.

"Aaron is high energy long athletic player who will add some solid depth to our middles and look to gain some valuable experience to compete," Friend said. "He is an extremely bright young man who has a mountain of potential."

Gallik, a 6-foot-5 middle blocker, earned three varsity letters during a successful prep career at volleyball power Brother Rice. An IHSA Elite Eight squad during his junior season, Gallik helped his team to two Catholic League championships, one regional championship and one sectional championship during his career. Gallik also has two years of club experience with the Chicago Select 18's.

"Matt will bring a fiery intensity and a great net prowess," Friend said. "Gallik also has a fast approach and swing that will bring an awesome competitive dynamic to the team. He will help to solidify our middle group and make a push to compete throughout the season."

Muesenfechter, Flick and Gallik join Brian Schmidt as members of the 2007-08 men's volleyball recruiting class.

The Flyers showed considerable improvement during the 2007 season, posting records of 17-14 overall and 5-7 (fifth place) in the MIVA. In addition, the Flyers returned to postseason play for the first time since 2004, and three Flyers were selected to the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association all-conference team.
