Four honored Flyers

Four Flyers Selected To All-MIVA Team

April 16, 2008

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - Lewis University outside hitter Jared Dayton, middle blockers Billy Sahagian and Alex Vigansky and setter Mike Iandolo have been selected to the 2008 Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association All-Conference team, as voted on by the league's head coaches.

Dayton, a fifth year senior, was selected to the All-MIVA first team for the second consecutive season. This is his third All-MIVA honor of his career. In 2005 he was named to the All-MIVA second team. This season Dayton has already earned Academic All-MIVA honors and a MIVA Player of the Week award. He ranked second in the MIVA in points (4.55), fourth in kills (3.84) and ended the regular season on a streak of 13 straight matches with double-digit kills.

Juniors Sahagian and Vigansky were named to their second All-MIVA second team. Sahagian was honored last season and Vigansky in 2006. Iandolo, a sophomore, was named to the All-MIVA second team for the first time. This season Sahagian set new career highs with 218 kills and 104 blocks. He was third in the conference in blocks (1.29) and fifth in hitting percentage (.428). Vigansky led the MIVA in hitting percentage (.456) and ranked fourth in blocks (1.25). Iandolo, in his first season at Lewis, led the MIVA in service aces (.60) and was third in assists (12.14).

Lewis has increased their All-MIVA selections each year since 2006.

The Flyers are back in action on Friday when they host Mercyhurst in a MIVA Tournament quarterfinal match at 7 p.m.
