Flyers Fall To Mercyhurst, 3-1

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - Drew Pickering led the Lewis Flyers with 12 kills, but the Mercyhurst Lakers earned their first win of the season, 30-26, 30-27, 20-30 and 30-16, in Midwest Intercollegiate Volleyball Association competition Saturday night at Neil Carey Arena.

The Flyers dropped to 3-3 (1-2 MIVA), and the Lakers improved to 1-3 (1-1 MIVA) on the season.

Down 2-0 in the match, the Flyers out-hit Mercyhurst .435 to .043 in the third game to force a fourth set, but the Lakers responded with a dominating performance in the final game, out-hitting the Flyers .667 to .130 to seal the win.

Nate Keegan posted a match-high 17 kills, including eight in the final game, and Chad Proudman added 16 kills (seven in the last game) for the Lakers. Tim Wagner contributed a match-high 10 digs to go with his seven kills.

The Lakers fell behind in game two, but they rallied to take the lead at 8-7 and never trailed again. In the first game, the Lakers cruised to a 19-10 advantage, but the Flyers managed to rally for a 24-24 tie before falling 30-26.

Besides Pickering, two other Flyers reached double digits in kills. Alex Vigansky and Mykolai Zerebeckyj each tallied 11 kills. Zerebeckyj also notched seven digs, which led the Flyers. Pickering had six digs.

The Flyers play again on Friday when they host Ball State at 7 pm.
