Flyers Trip Up No. 15 IPFW For First Home Win Of 2006

Jan. 27, 2006

Box Score

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - Mykolai Zerebeckyj registered a double-double with career highs of 20 kills and 13 digs, as the Lewis Flyers knocked off No. 15 IPFW 3-1 (28-30, 30-28, 30-27, 30-26), in Midwest Intercollegiate Volleyball Association action Friday night at Neil Carey Arena.

Lewis improved to 3-2 (1-1 MIVA), while the Mastodons, who took No. 6 Cal State Northridge to five games last Friday, dropped to 2-3 (0-1 MIVA).

Zerebeckyj led all players in digs and set the team high in kills, hitting .607 for the match, and he recorded one of the Flyers' seven aces. Drew Pickering added 17 kills with nine digs, while David Kelnhofer was the third Flyer in double figures in kills with 15. Nick Perakes notched eight digs.

The Flyers had to come from behind in the fourth game to earn the match victory. Down 16-12, the Flyers rallied for an 18-18 tie, thanks in part to two solid kills from Kelnhofer. Kelnhofer later gave the Flyers their first lead of the set with another successful hit, making the score 21-20.

Pickering put the Flyers in front for good at 24-23 when he hammered the ball down between two IPFW defenders. Alex Vigansky served an ace for the match-winner.

An ace off the arm of Pickering busted a 25-25 tie in the third game, and Zerebeckyj added two kills to help push Lewis to victory.

The second game was tied 28-28 before IPFW committed a service error and Kelnhofer served an ace for game point.

IPFW took the first game, taking advantage of eight Flyer errors en route to the two-point win.

C.J. Macias led the Mastodons with 23 kills, and Brock Ulrich had a team-best 11 digs.

The Flyers hit .324 for the match, compared to .302 by the Mastodons.

The Flyers play again on Saturday when they host Mercyhurst at 7 pm.
