Lewis Athletics Places Second In Academic All-GLVC Selections With 113

Romeoville, Ill. - The Great Lakes Valley Conference released the 2008-09 selections for the Academic All-GLVC squad on Tuesday, and Lewis University found themselves second among 13 conference teams with 113 honorees.

Student-athletes that have been in the league for more than two semesters are honored for maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.30. Those student-athletes that have not maintained a 3.30 grade point average but have earned a 3.40 grade point average during the preceding two semesters and those that have been in the league for two of fewer semesters and have earned a 3.40 grade point average are also honored by the league.

Drury was the overall leader with 121 selections, followed by Lewis, Bellarmine (109), Indianapolis (106), Rockhurst (105), Missouri S&T (101), Northern Kentucky (76), Saint Joseph's (75), UW-Parkside (74), Quincy (74), Southern Indiana (66), Missouri-St. Louis (57) and Kentucky Wesleyan (45).

Lewis head women's soccer coach Chris Koenig and his troops led all Flyer sports teams with 14 selections, followed by men's track and field (13), softball (13), women's track and field (11), volleyball (9), women's basketball (8), baseball (7), men's cross country (6), women's tennis (6), men's basketball (5), women's golf (5), men's soccer (5), men's tennis (5), men's golf (4), women's cross country (2).

The Lewis men's tennis team tied for the GLVC lead with both Indianapolis and Missouri-St. Louis.
