Lapimaa Advances To Finals Of Lewis Flyer Classic In Singles And Doubles

Oct. 10, 2009

Romeoville, Ill. - Knowing this was the last weekend of the fall season for him, Lewis University redshirt sophomore Uno Lapimaa (Tallinn, Estonia/Audentese) certainly made the most of it, as the Estonia native advanced to both the singles and doubles finals of the 3rd Annual Lewis Flyer Men's Tennis Classic at the Lewis Tennis Courts on Saturday afternoon.

"It was a good day for our young squad," Lewis assistant men's tennis coach Slavko Radman said. "We are looking for another good performance from our top guys as we are trying to win couple of flights in this year's invitational."

In singles action, Lapimaa opened with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Grand Valley State's Brock Plangger and advanced to the Flight 2 finals with a 6-0, 6-2 triumph over St. Francis' Luis Oliviera.

Lapimaa would pair with junior Lorenz Pestinger (Bad Homburg, Germany/Humboldtschule/Missouri Valley) for an 8-6 win over GVSU's Philipp Claus and Plangger. The duo moved on to the Flight 1 doubles finals with an 8-5 victory over Western Illinois' Jeff Cote and Francisco Ortiz.

Lewis freshman Jesse Hardacre (Racine, Wis./St. Catherine's) impressed in his home debut, as the Wisconsin native advanced to the Flight 3 finals with wins over St. Francis' Jacob Quigley (2-6, 7-5, 10-7) and GVSU's Jeff Globerson (6-1, 6-4).

Lewis opens the spring campaign on February 12th, as they take on Minnesota State-Mankato in Houghton, Michigan.

A Catholic university sponsored by the De La Salle Christian Brothers, Lewis offers nearly 80 undergraduate majors and programs of study, accelerated degree completion options for working adults, various aviation programs and 22 graduate programs in nine fields. The 10th largest private, not-for-profit university in Illinois is being honored for the sixth consecutive year by The Princeton Review and U.S. News & World Report.
