Midland, Mich. - The finals of the Wilson/ITA Great Lakes Men's Division II Tennis Regional Championship were in the sights of Lewis University redshirt sophomore Uno Lapimaa (Tallinn, Estonia/Audentese) for the second-straight year, but the Estonian native fell short as he dropped a 6-3, 6-2 decision at the hands of Northern Kentucky's Lance Koetter in the semifinals.

Lapimaa advanced to the `Final Four' after a 6-1, 6-0 triumph over 10th seeded Razvan Mag of Lake Superior State in his first match of the day.

"Uno is playing better than last year, but he just ran into a guy that played very solid tennis today and earned the win over him," Lewis head men's tennis coach Brett Bridel said.

Lapimaa would later pair up with Lorenz Pestinger (Bad Homburg, Germany/Humboldtschule/Missouri Valley) in doubles action and took home the 8-2 victory over Grand Valley State's Marc Roesslein and Tony Dang to advance to the semifinals. The duo's tournament, however, would come to an end, as they lost a hard-fought 9-8 (12-10) decision at the hands of Northwood's Peter Kazianschuetz and Frederic Schoelzel.

In other singles action Tonis Irdoja (Tallinn, Estonia/Rocca Al Mare Kool) was knocked out of the singles draw, as he fell 6-2, 6-3 to Roesslein.

Lewis returns to action on Friday, October 9th as they host the Lewis Flyer Classic, with action starting at 9 a.m. (CST).

A Catholic university sponsored by the De La Salle Christian Brothers, Lewis offers nearly 80 undergraduate majors and programs of study, accelerated degree completion options for working adults, various aviation programs and 22 graduate programs in nine fields. The 10th largest private, not-for-profit university in Illinois is being honored for the sixth consecutive year by The Princeton Review and U.S. News & World Report.
