ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - Propelled by a five-game win streak, the Lewis Flyers (12-4, 8-4 GLVC) have returned to the national poll for the first time since week 3 of the season, earning the 23rd spot in this week's NSCAA/adidas National Rankings. Starting with a thrilling 1-0 overtime win against then-ranked No. 23 Indianapolis on September 30, the Flyers have put together their longest win streak since the end of the 2005 season. Lewis has outscored its opponents 19-4 during the run, getting 10 of those scores from sophomore Nestor Hernandez, the current Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week, and junior Jorge De Jesus. Lewis' win over then-ranked No. 21 Rockhurst on Sunday was the Flyers' third win over a nationally-ranked opponent this season. The win also gave the Flyers a guaranteed spot in the upcoming GLVC Championship Tournament. The Flyers currently sit third in the standings. The conference's top four seeds host first-round games. The Flyers wrap-up their regular season conference schedule with a home game against rival Wisconsin-Parkside on Thursday at 4:00 p.m. Lewis is 7-1 at home this season. |
