ROMEOVILLE, Ill - The Lewis University men's soccer team will try to defeat their second Top 5 team in as many weeks when they face No. 3 Northern Kentucky on Friday. On August 26 the Flyers defeated then No. 5 Lincoln Memorial 3-2. The win catapulted the Flyers to No. 25 in the national rankings. After defeating Upper Iowa 8-0 and Northwood 2-0 last week, the Flyers have risen to No. 16 in this week's NCAA Division II national poll. The Flyers are led by junior midfielder Cory Mastey. He leads the Flyers in goals (7), points (16), shots (23) and shots on goal (14). Junior goalkeeper Anthony Szymel has been solid for the Flyers. He has four wins in four starts and hasn't allowed a goal in his last 180 minutes. Northern Kentucky stands at 4-0. They defeated Findlay, 4-1, on Friday and picked up a 2-1 come-from-behind win against Tiffin on Sunday. After Northern Kentucky, the Flyers travel to Louisville on Sunday for a game against Bellarmine at 2:30 p.m. |
